Privacy policy

This policy explains what Pack & Passport collects, why, and what you can do about it. Pack & Passport is published by The First Buyer.

The short version

• We do not ask you to create an account and we have no user database.
• We collect what you send us through the contact form, and nothing else directly.
• Google Analytics records anonymized usage data about how the site is used.
• Affiliate links pass a referral tag to Amazon so purchases can be attributed to us.
• We do not sell data, and we have nothing to sell.

What we collect

Contact form submissions. If you send us a message, we receive your name, your email address, any subject line you enter and the message itself. That goes to our inbox by email. We keep it as long as it is useful for correspondence and no longer.

To limit automated spam, the contact form also records how long the page was open before you submitted it and briefly counts submissions per IP address in memory. That information is not stored, not logged and not associated with you - it exists for a few seconds to decide whether a submission is from a bot.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and how people arrive. It records anonymized information such as approximate location, device type, referring site and which pages you visited. It does not tell us who you are, and we do not attempt to identify individuals from it.

Affiliate click events. When you click a buy button we record that a click happened, on which page, and to which retailer. We do not know whether you bought anything from that event - only Amazon knows that, and it tells us in aggregate, never per person.

Cookies and similar technologies

Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish repeat visits from new ones. You can block or delete these through your browser settings, or install Google's own opt-out browser add-on, and the site will work normally without them.

Amazon sets its own cookies when you arrive there through one of our links. That is how a purchase gets attributed to this site. Amazon's use of your data on Amazon's site is governed by Amazon's privacy policy, not by this one.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your data. There is no arrangement under which any data from this site is sold or shared for money.
• We do not run a newsletter or a mailing list at present, so we are not collecting email addresses for marketing.
• We do not use retargeting or advertising pixels. No social media pixel, no ad network tags.
• We do not have user accounts, so there is no password or profile to protect.

Third parties

• Google Analytics - anonymized usage analytics.
• Amazon Associates - affiliate link attribution when you click through to Amazon.
• Microsoft Graph - delivers contact form submissions to our inbox as email.
• Vercel - hosts the site and processes standard web server request data.

Each of those has its own privacy policy governing what it does with data it receives. We have no access to more information than is described above.

Children

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information through the contact form, email us and we will delete it.

Your choices

• Block analytics through your browser settings or Google's opt-out add-on.
• Ask us to delete a contact form message you sent, and we will remove it from our inbox.
• Ask what we hold about you. Given the above the honest answer is usually nothing, but ask and we will tell you.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of this page. Changes take effect when published.
